Mission Statement To provide a safe and caring environment that prepares all students to achieve academic excellence, develop positive attitudes, and exhibit responsible behavior.

¨     BRMS improved its State Report Card grade to an "A"

¨      BRMS has a highly trained professional staff who guide our students through the transitions of Middle School.

¨      BRMS parents are very supportive and involved in their students' education.

¨      Test results from the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) have shown a steady increase at BRMS in students who have met or exceeded the state standards in Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies.

¨      Students earned over 36,000 Accelerated Reader Points this past year.

¨      Fifty-two 8th grade students earned a position in the Micro/Macro Science Program at the High School.

¨      The 8th Grade Band has received a "1" rating at District and State Levels for 12 years in a row.

¨      Fifty-one different individuals and groups participated in 2007-08 Band Solo and Ensembles. Thirty three received first divisions, seventeen received second divisions, and one received a third division.

¨      Eight students were chosen to perform with the MSBOA Honor's Band.

¨      BRMS has a thriving Honors Choir, with six students participating in teh MSVMA Regional and State Honors Choir.

¨      Under the direction of Katie McInnis, the Eighth Grade Choir Class performs a student musical every year.

¨      Over sixty students participated in the Science Fair.

¨      The Math Counts team continues to earn recognition with high ratings at Regional Competition.

¨      Nine BRMS students received the Presidential Physical Fitness Award and 74 students received the National Physical Fitness Award.

¨      Every student participated in the Bullying Prevention Strategies led by our School Social Worker and Police Liaison Officer.

¨      Ten Ferris State Social Work students mentored students at Big Rapids Middle School to help improve academic success.

¨      Our "Daily Homework Support" (DHS) program has helped improve the grades of many students.

¨      BRMS has an intensive academic support system for at risk students.

¨      BRMS has an accelerated math program for students that excel in the area of mathematics.

¨      Over 70% of our students are involved with extra-curricular activities; including athletics, fine arts, and community service programs.

¨      Twenty-five students participated in the Second Annual BRMS Talent Show. Three groups showcased their skills at the CSAA League Talent Show.

¨      Mrs. Quilitzsch and Mr. Kigar were awarded financial grants from the Mecosta County Youth Advisory Council for an audiobook program and cardio equipment.

¨      School Activity Nights provided a supervised, safe, and fun social time for Big Rapids Middle School students.
